Speciality: Hip and knee surgery, orthopaedic oncology, Oxford partial knee replacement.

Specialist Interests: Adult hip and knee surgery, sports medicine, musculoskeletal oncology including skeletal metastatic disease.

General Information:

Mr Duncan Whitwell is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre NHS Trust, Oxford. He also undertakes NHS clinics in Bristol, Abingdon and Newbury. He graduated from Nottingham University and trained in Bristol, Oxford and Brisbane, Australia before taking up his Consultant appointment in Oxford. He specialises in the surgical treatment of hip and knee problems including revision surgery.

Mr Whitwell is also a lead Consultant in the Oxford Bone and Soft Tissue Service where he specialises in treatment and reconstruction for patients with bone and soft tissue cancer.

He regularly lectures on hip and knee surgery at international meetings and is a European surgical demonstrator on the resurfacing hip arthroplasty.

Mr Whitwell’s research interests are in computer navigated hip and knee arthroplasty, the young patient with hip disease and the treatment of bone and soft tissue sarcomas and of metastatic bone disease. He is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Oxford and is involved in both local undergraduate and national postgraduate educational programmes.
